Sgt. William Henry Williams 44th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps (d.31st Jan 1945)

William H. Williams,_Coriano Ridge War Cemetery

William H. Williams in Egypt 1942

We know very little about William Williams. He lost both his parents when he was young (pre-war), and his younger brother, Thomas Rees Williams, was in the RAF as an air gunner in 207 Squadron. He wrote to his brother whilst on leave. The message was brief, yet emotional. William was wounded by a stray bullet and died from that wound months after he was shot. He is laid to rest in Coriano Ridge War Cemetery in Italy. Any information on his contribution to the 44th Regiment would be fantastic.

Harold Banks 44th Btn. Reconnaissance Corps (d.11th September 1944)

His grave at Coriano Ridge Cemetery

Harold Banks was my great granddad. He died when he was 38 during the 2nd World War, he served with 7th Btn. Royal West Kent Regiment and the Reconnaissance Corps. His wife, my great gran, told us about him. She had a little card he had made from a bit of leather with a feather stuck in it. She passed away in 1989.

I did a search and found that Harold is buried in Italy in Coriani Ridge Cemetery. I don't know if my great gran ever got over there. They had two daughters Joyce and Greta. Grandma Joyce has passed away but Greta is still with us.

Ronald Harold Newman 44th (7th Queen's Own Royal West Kent) Recce Regt. (d.10th Feb 1944)

Ronald Newman was my Uncle who gave his life and is resting in the Minturno Military Cemetery, Italy. We visited his grave a couple of years ago and it was a very humbling place.

Sgt. Thomas John Pring 44th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps (d.18th Oct 1943)

My father only ever told me that I was named after my uncle Thomas Pring. I was told he died in the desert in a tank but have since found out he got as far as Italy where he was killed in action and buried in Naples War Cemetery. He was married to Kathleen from Londonderry.
