William Francis Landin 220 Squadron
William Landin was my late father, he enlisted in the RAF Sept 1938 signing up for 6 years. Did he know was going to happen twelve months later I wonder? After his initial training he was eventually posted to 220 Squadron at RAF Thornaby where he was stationed for about 18 months. He was then posted to 254 Squadron before going to the middle east with 252 Squadron where I believe he served for the remainder of WW2 until he was discharged January 1946.Douglas Landin
LAC. Hubert Ronald "George" Houlding 252 Squadron
My Dad, Hubert Houlding met my Mum when posted to RAF St Athan, they corresponded during the War and married in 1946. Dad enjoyed his war I think, although anecdotes about it mainly related to bully beef, brew ups and the lack or shortage of toilet paper.I believe he was involved in the construction and maintenance of an air sea rescue hydroplane, a craft powered by an aircraft engine, with other aircraft components, ie rudder and floats. I believe he also got involved with the Bar None Motor Cycle Club, formed towards the end of the war to keep the restless and perhaps under employed men amused while waiting to go home.

WO1 Kenneth William Clark 252 Squadron (d.9th May 1943)
On 26th October 1942, F/Sgt. Kenneth Clark and observer Sgt. Fraser were flying Beaufighter T5209 on a sortie from Gianiclis escorting Beauforts on a convoy strike at Tobruk when they were attacked and hit by a ME109. Sgt. Fraser was injured in a hand as well as his left knee.On 9th May 1943, F/Sgt. Clark and his Observer, F/Sgt. J. Talbot (964697) left the base at Magrun or Gambut at 1755 hrs in a patrol of four aircraft to carry out a convoy patrol in the Gulf Of Sidra.
Shortly after the patrol of four aircraft left the base, F/Sgt. Clark's aircraft was observed to orbit the base and then set course unaccompanied, at a height of 1000 ft. While over the base no message was received either on R.T. or V.H.F. (Radio Messages Morse and Voice) and no indication was given to the ground of any difficulty he may have experienced in deciding him to leave the patrol just after the take off and return and circle the base. This was the last occasion in which the aircraft was seen. It failed to join up with the patrol at any time.
An extensive search was carried out over the sea with no result and it was presumed that the aircraft had dived into the sea leaving no survivors.
