Chindit Second Operation
Feb 1944 Chindit force preparations In early February 1944 preparations began for the 2nd Chindit Expedition. The Special Force or 3rd Indian Division as it was known consisted of the following units, which were split into Columns.3rd West African Brigade and 14th Brigade

Dvr Colin Lowthrop 61st Air Supply Royal Army Service Corps
Colin Lowthrop was part of a group of 12 Royal Army Service Corps personel who joined the second Chindit campaign in Burma. Colin was a member of 61st Air Supply RASC in WW2.
He wrote a piece for his old school magazine describing a heavy raid by eight Japanese dive bombers. Four, possibly five, shot down and no British casualties. Photographs available.

Spr. Frederick William Turner 219th Field Park Coy. Royal Engineers
Frederick Turner enlisted in the 219th Corps Field Park Company, Royal Engineers on 5th of March 1940, having previously served as a Territorial Gunner in the Royal Artillery. He served in Egypt, Syria and Libya and was present at the Siege of Tobruk with the 70th Division. The 70th Division was later sent to India where it was disbanded. Its personnel were used to form columns of General Wingate's 2nd Chindit expedition, Operation Thursday. He is thought to have served with 16th Brigade under Brigadier Bernard Fergusson, and was possibly attached to the 2nd battalion, The Queen's Royal Regiment, (West Surrey) in 22 column. It is known that he was flown out of Burma due to having an infected and badly swollen ankle.
