Our Library contains an ever growing number diary entries, personal letters and other documents, most transcribed into plain text. Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home. If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes. Stories from 16th January 1942 Pte. Charles Edward Connelly. Royal Army Service Corps, 46th Div Supply Coy. . (d.16th Jan 1942) I was only seven years old when my brother was killed. He was only 21 and my mother went white overnight. I have longed to know how he died because I was told he was on manouvers in Gravesend Kent. His body was brought home and an officer came to the house with a flag for his coffin. When I smell Brylcream his memory floods back Florence Hardman Add to this record. Sgt. Thomas Noel Pugh. Royal Canadian Air Force, 419 Sqdn.. (d.16th Jan 1942) I have only been able to find details of my Uncle Tom on the CWGC website, I would love to learn more if anyone can help. He had only been married a short time and had no children, his wife Olive died 6 months after learning of his death. Editor's Note: Tom was flying in Wellington Z1145 VR-A which took off from RAF Mildenhall at 18:10 on the 15th of Januray 1942. The Aircraft was severely battle damaged during the raid on Hamburg and was returning to base when both engines failed due to lack of fuel. The Wellington ditched at 02:10 on the 16th of Jan 1942 in the sea off Spurn Head. Two survivors, Sgt Cox and Sgt Lucas were picked up two hours later and taken to Grimsby Naval Hospital suffering from minor cuts and abrasions. The rest of the crew were lost at sea and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. The crew were: P/O T.G.Cottier RCAF Sgt L.C.Powell RCAF Sgt A.E.Cox RAF Sgt T.N.Pugh RCAF P/O C.H.Lomas RCAF Sgt J.A.H.Lucas RAF Angela Dauria Add to this record.
