Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home. If you have any unwanted
photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them.
The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes. Please get in touch for the postal address, do not sent them to our PO Box as packages are not accepted.

F/Sgt. Peter Sinclair. Royal Australian Air Force, . (d.29th Mar 1944) Flight Sergeant Peter Sinclair RAAF, flew from RAF Elvington, the
twenty-two year old son John Sinclair and Wilhelmina Agnes (Mackintosh).
Peter died from injuries in Ayrshire on 29 March 1944 and is buried in
the Stonefall Cemetery, Harrogate, Yorkshire.
The family owned the 'Ki-Downs' property in Euston, NSW, AUS where Peter
was a jackaroo for his father.

2nd Lt. Robert L. McFetrich. United States Air Force, 510th Bomb Squadron. (d.29th March 1944) Robert McFetrich was killed in a mid air collision between B24's near Halesworth, Suffolk, England on the 29th of March 1944. A cemetery memorial for Robert is at Champion Township Cemetery, Champion, Trumbull Co., Ohio. Bonnie Diehl

Cpl. Leonard Wray. British Army, 1st Btn West Yorkshire Regiment. (d.29th March 1944) Leonard Wray served with the 1st Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment in WW2. He died 29th of March 1944 aged 25 years in Burma and is remembered on the Rangoon Memorial in Myanmar.

Sqd.Ldr. James Catanach. DFC. Royal Australian Air Force, 455 Squadron. (d.29th March 1944) James Catanach completed nine perilous missions with Bomber Command, before his unit, No. 455 Squadron, RAAF, was transferred to Coastal Command in April 1942. By June, 20-year-old Catanach had been promoted Squadron Leader, the youngest in the Royal Australian Air Force, and been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), his squadron's first.
On 2nd of September 1942, sixteen Hampden torpedo-bombers of No. 455 Squadron set out from RAF Sumburgh in the Shetland Islands. Their destination, Vaenga (now Severomorsk), Russia.
Allied shipping convoys bound for the Soviet port of Murmansk always suffered heavy casualties. No. 455 crews were tasked with transferring their aircraft to the Soviets who could use them protect the incoming ships. Catanach's aircraft, AT109, was forced down en-route, however, and he and his crew were captured near Norway.
Imprisoned at Stalag Luft III, Sagan (Zagan, modern Poland), Catanach was among 75 Allied airmen take part in the legendary Great Escape, on 24th of March 1944. Seventy-three prisoners were recaptured. Fifty of these including Catanach were executed by the Gestapo in bloody retribution.
