Capt. Paul Riley Mudge
US Army Air Corps
from:Cleveland, OH, USA
Paul Riley Mudge was my father, at the time he was a Captain in the USAAC (prior to becoming USAF) based at Bowman Field, KY. This was about early 1944. We, as a family lived in Louisville while awaiting housing at Bowman Field. At the time, we were told there were approximately 300 German soldier/prisoners of the "Afrika Korps" being housed at Bowman Field. I recall seeing their compound and them and a truckload of them were brought to Louisville to pack our stuff and move us to Bowman Field. Those who could speak English were happy to be out of the war and out of the desert. I understand that a number of them, after the war, immigrated to KY to live as USA citizens.
