William Hillis joined the Saskatchewan Light Infantry in November of 1942, later transferring to the South Saskatchewan Regiment. After his training in Aldershot, Nova Scotia and Woodstock, Ontario, William shipped overseas in March of 1944. On October 14, 1944 he was killed in Belgium while performing his duty as a medic/stretcher bearer.
