OBITUARY For John William Turnbull 1916-1940
We regret to record the death of John William Turnbull of 40 Laburnum Terrace, Ashington, Northumberland who was attached to H.M. Royal Northumberland Fusiliers And Died of Wounds Receved In France at the age of 23 He was employed at Linton Colliery where he began after leaving school and was known as a bright cheery and manly young chap being in the Territorials he was called up September last (1939)
John Turnbull was a rather well known member of the Northseaton Colliery Band and was a Soprano player of sume distinction winning six Gold Medals in the three years 1937 38 39. This is an unequalied record for a soprano player so we are informed by the band secretary that were won at the Minors Picnic Band Contest at Morpeth.
Sixty eight Instruimentalists from various bands attended Jhn's funeral at Seaton Hirst Church (St John's) we offer our sincere sympathies to John's family in their bereavement..
