Capt. Gilbert Andrew Smith
British Army 4th Btn, C Squadron Royal Tank Regiment
from:Gravesend
My father, Gilbert Smith was a POW in PG21 at Chieti, he escaped from the hospital. He reached Rome where he remained until the Allies relieved the city.
He is mentioned in a couple of books, one by Dennis Rendell and another about a fellow escapee who lived with an Italian couple in Rome in a cupboard. They did not let him out of the apartment until the Alliies arrived.
I would love to trace the titles of these two books and any others which mentioned my father.
