John William Littlewood

British Army

from:Hillgate, Stockport

I am trying to trace any infomation about my grandad, John Littlewood, I do remember as a child that he would wake-up from his sleep in tears dreaming about what they did to him in the POW camp. I think I once saw a history programme on Sky he was in a photo in Camp 4 or 5, he was helping to build the bridge over the river Kwai Burma. What I do know is that he was shot twice in escapping when they blew the bridge up but lived to tell us his horrific story as to what happened then. one bullet was lodged in his neck and was only removed about ten years before his death.

He was orignially from Hillgate, Stockport, Cheshire. He was a cook in the Army and was shipped out to Burma. He also had a brother called Frank who was based in Eygpt.
