Flying Officer Bob Avery did some of his pilot training in the US (possibly New York State) around 1942-43. Deployed with 104 Sqn, he was shot down over the Balkans on 5 May 1944. According to CWGC, his grave is in Budapest. He was 21. Bob Avery was a close friend of my father, Bill Martin, when they were teenagers in Enfield.
