Stephen Laurence Revely, son of Thomas and Florence Revely (nee Hepburn), was born in 1920 in Jarrow, County Durham. The Matabele was on passage from Iceland to Murmansk when it sank following torpedo attack from the German submarine U-454. He died aged 21, and is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial and on the WW2 Roll of Honour Plaque in the entrance to Jarrow Town Hall.
