Benjamin Bower Hardy served with the 22nd Australian Garrison Battalion, Australian Military Force and died on the 5th August 1944 during Japanese POW Breakout at Cowra Camp.
He was born in Sydney, Ben Hardy in 1898 and was a 43-year-old motor driver when he enlisted in late 1941.
The George Cross, posthumously awarded for his bravery in confronting a prisoner-of-war breakout at Cowra POW Camp, was presented to his sister in 1952.
