226575 Tom Barker British Army Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders from:Barton-on-Humber, Lincolnshire I was born on 23rd May 1921 in Barton-on-Humber, Lincolnshire. I joined the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in 1938. I served in Palestine in 1939, the Libyan Desert and the Battle of Sidi Barrani in 1940. Then I was wounded and taken prisoner in Crete in 1941. The next two years were spent in forced labour camps. I then changed identities with Harry Tenny (RAF) to help him escape. Two years were spent in Stalag 4B, Muhlberg. I got out of the camp when the guards ran off because the Russians were advancing and reached home on VE Day.
