Cpl. Eugene J. Lindner

United States Army Coy B 81st Engineering Btn.

from:Illinois

My father Gene Lindner seldom spoke of his experiences during the war. It wasn't until after his death and the Internet made records available that I found out anything about his time as a POW at all. He would occasionally drop little emotional bombs, like the time he shut us kids up about eating leftovers by telling us how the men would dig for worms to eat, when the ground wasn't frozen, and how the Commandant's standard poodle ate better than the prisoners did. Three-day-old meatloaf never looked so good.
