I have little information about my father's time in Stalag XVIIB.
I know he was wounded at Mareth Line. As he was a trained butcher, he worked in a butcher outside of the camp which must have made life a little easier for him. He made friends with a local Austrian family who had a son about the same age as myself named Peter Bochzelt. We corresponded with them long after the war ended and I met some of them many years later when working in Hungary. They were very kind and lovely people.
Father spoke very little about his wartime experiences and passed away in 1971.
