My grandfather, Fred Beale and his brother George, were two Aboriginal brothers from Gunnadah Country, NSW, who were in the ill-fated 2/20th Btn which took the brunt of the Japanese invasion of Singapore. As a result they were captured and sent to Naoetsu, Japan on a hellship. Uncle George was killed in the camp and my grandfather passed away in 1992.
