My dad, Richard Allen was first gunner for the third platoon, 81mm mortars. On 3rd of March 1945, he was wounded in the left knee at Ichendorf, Germany (just west of Cologne). On April 25, he returned to his unit near Bitterfeld (northwest of Torgau). He served for the 104th (Timberwolf Division); 1st of April 1944 through to 20th of November 1945. Through the years he had kept in touch with several of his army buddies. Pop passed away in 2000.
