L/Cpl. George Coverdale

British Army 2nd Btn. Lancashire Fusiliers

from:Manchester?

George was captured in May 1940 and spent the rest of the war as a prisoner in Poland. His POW number was 4463. He really never got over it and never talked to the family about his experiences. The only story I remember was him saying that he did not like Americans because he had met one during the war! He was a gentle caring man who was convinced that he would die before his time because a doctor had foolishly told him that his experiences as a POW had shortened his life by at least ten years! Any information would be gratefully received.
