Sgt. Joseph Robert Leslie Neathway
British Army Somerset Light Infantry
from:Weston-super-Mare
I know that Joseph Robert Leslie Neathway or Les, as he was known, was in the Somerset Light Infantry from 29th January 1942 until 21st April 1944. He then transferred to the Durham Light Infantry from 22nd April 1944 until he was de-mobbed.
I also know that he was on the beaches at Dunkirk, where he sustained an injury to his leg. The shrapnel remained in his leg all his life. He was also in charge of 200 POWs towards the end of the war. When he left he had risen to the rank of sergeant.
