Frank Gillette served with 242 Infantry Regiment, Company C. in Rainbow Division. He enlisted on the 23rd of August 1943 and sepnt 4 months as a Private including basic training. He was promoted to Sergeant and spent 21 months as a Squad leader before becoming a Staff Sargeant, and spending 2 months as Platoon Sargeant. He was a Troop Leader at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma.
He served with the 42nd Infantry Division in France, Luxembourg and Germany as a squad leader. Supervised eleven men in the capturing of enemy positions by directing and controlling their fire and movement. Was captured by the Germans and was a prisoner of war in Germany for four months and was liberated by the Russian Army on the 24th of April 1945. Was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge for efficiency as a rifleman.
Frank was given an honorable discharge on the 30th of November 1945.
