Gnr. Victor Edward Martin

British Army 64th Medium Regiment Royal Artillery

from:Stockwell, London

My dad, Victor Martin, served in Egypt, Libya and Greece. He was captured in Cyrenaica after the truck he was in went over a landmine killing some of the others and breaking his right arm and leg. He was taken to Caserta military hospital and from there to Stalag VIIIB where he was a PoW until 1944 when he was repatriated. Because of the severity of his injuries, which left him unable to write with his right hand, he trained himself to use his left one.
