Sgt. John Charles Cox
British Army 1st (Tower Hamlets) Btn. Rifle Brigade
from:Hackney, London
My dad, John Cox, was captured in Italy and sent to a prison of war camp in Sulmona, Italy.
He escaped but was captured by the Germans in the mountains and taken to Stalag X1A. I'm not sure which camp the memories came from, but he only told us of the good times, when they made Christmas pudding and used boot polish to make the mixture dark! The shows they put on and how he always treasured his mandolin sent by the Red Cross. He was, however, always scared of Alsatian dogs.
