Dvr. Cyril Sales
British Army Royal Army Service Corps
My dad was Cyril Sales. He was in the British Army as a driver.
I remember as a child after the war, a man called at our home and it turned out to be a friend of dads, from Stalag XVlll-A POW Camp. They hugged each other and cried like babies they were so pleased to have met up again. This was in the 1960s. Dad's friend came over from Holland, to trace my dad. It was very emotional. I remember mum inviting them in and making a meal for them, so I'm trying to find out as much as I can.
I remember dad kneeling in front of the TV when we were kids, crying on Remembrance Day, as dad had lost his younger brother Donald.
These poor men - we are so grateful to all those who fought so we can be here today. Thank you, and to those poor lads who lost their lives, thank you.
