Cpl. Wilfred Henry Hunt

British Army 20th Coy. B Pltn. Royal Army Service Corps

from:Sleaford, Lincs

I know Wilf Hunt worked on Operation Pluto prior to joining 21st Army group rear and landing at Arromanche on 13th of August 1944. His subsequent involvement in Operation Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge and the final mystery of their part in relieving Bergen-Belsen all need considerable help. I know that most of the time, they were supporting 50th Northumberlands and Guards Armoured Division, but info is remarkably vague.

We only discovered that my dad, was involved in the relief of Belsen after his death. It has proved maddeningly difficult to find out more. I know he was with 30 Corps as they fought from Normandy through Holland. He seems to have been involved in supporting the Yanks during the Battle of the Bulge. How that happened and what happened afterwards is mostly unknown. I know more than most about Belsen, but nobody bothers noting what lorry drivers were doing which is why it is so hard to find anything.

It really affected him for the rest of his life and he couldn't talk about it. I know what he saw, but would like to know what he actually contributed. He may have been a mere driver, but it would not have been possible without his sort.
