Trpr. Henry James Rolfe
British Army 45th Btn. Recce Regiment
from:London
I write this on behalf of my uncle Jim Rolfe who sadly died in 1965. Having his service record I know that he served with the Chindits on Op Thursday with 16 Brigade.
His record shows that his unit arrived in Bombay in October 1942 and that he was posted to 23rd Inf Bde (Sigs) after a period in Burma. He served as a driver/radio operator.
Having read up on 45 Recce Regt I know they had a punishing march at the beginning of Op Thursday to set up Aberdeen strongpoint and that later they saw action at White City and Thetkegyin.
Of the 800 who walked into Burma, only 80 remained after the rest were either wounded or killed. I would like to know more of his unit and, in particular, anyone who knew him.
