Fred Hillman was my 1st cousin 2 times removed. My dad grew up with him on the farms of Iowa in the 1930's and 40's. He joined the Army in July 1944 and was part of the 1st Army, 1st Division,(Big Red 1) 16th Infantry Regiment He died in combat by getting hit by German 88's near Stieldorferhohn, Germany 20th of March 1945. His company cleared Stieldorferhohn one half hour later according to records from 2015 from the President of the Big Red One.
