Pte. Jack "Jacko" Tingle
British Army Northampton Regiment
My grandfather, Jack Tingle, served in Burma from 21st of March 1941 to 22md of February 1945. He had a choice to fight or flight and being the strong willed and brave man he was, he decided to to take flight and go.
He was part of the 14th Army and told me loads of stories about being in the jungle and the forgotten army.
I hold all his memories and my memories of my grandfather close to my heart and I am so proud to have known him, one very couragious gentleman.
I would love to share all my stories but it would take me weeks to post them all on here.
I have all my grandfather's papers, photos etc when he served in Burma and will treasure these for the rest of my life as I loved him so much. We used to sit together every Sunday talking about his experiences when he served in India and I used to imagine the smells and the intensity of the heat as my grandfather and his pals had to walk the miles through the jungle feeling exhausted and hungry and fearing the Japanese.
