Gdsm. Benjmin Raybould

British Army 3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards

from:58 Intended Street, Cradley, Worcestershire

(d.11th Dec 1940)

Benjamin Raybould was Guardsman 2656522, 3rd Battalion, Coldstream Guards. He fought in the North African Desert War at the Battle of Sidi Barrani. He was my mother's first cousin and very well known to her. Ben's parents were at my grandparent's house when the telegram was delivered (the postman knew where they would be when he found them not at home a couple of streets away). Ben's death is recorded on the CWGC web site, also on a plaque at West Midlands Police HQ in Worcester and at his school in Colley Lane, Cradley, the same school that I attended later. As a child I was made to know all about cousin Ben.

Ben Raybould, best man at the marriage of his brother William Douglas Raybould in 1935.
