Ldg.Wren. Ann Margaret Dowland
Women's Royal Naval Service Cook HMS Tormentor
from:Swanage, Dorset
My late mother, Annie Dowland was a Wren during WW2, serving at HMS Tormentor from December 1940 until October 1945. She became Leading Wren cook. She was then transferred to HMS Attack until the end of December 1945, then HMS Osprey for a short time in early 1946 before going to RN Barracks until April 1946 when she was released. This is from her Service Certificate. I have two medals from then.
Sadly, she died in 1998, and this is the only record I have of her time there. There was a photo of her in uniform which has since been lost so there are no photos of her from then, which is a shame. I cannot find out anything else.
