My father was Harry Parsons and served as a Trooper in the Royal Armoured Corps, 4th Battalion Royal Tank Regiment. He was taken Prisoner of War in Italy between 20th of June 1942 and 23rd of October 1943. He tells the story that he escaped but was recaptured again and sent to Germany until 19th of March 1945 He was back in allied hands by 20th of March 1945 and home by 19th of April 1945. In Italy, my mother was informed he was missing presumed dead. My brothers were told by my father, that he was taken to Colditz as a POW in Germany.
My father married my mother in the August of 1939 before he went off to war, the B.E.F. in the September of 1939 He arrived home safely on 27th of May 1940 for a short period before going off again to the Middle East. While at home during the short stay he was allowed, my mother gave birth to their first child. After leaving in the September my father didn't see his son again for five years.
