Joe Tipping was captured at Tobruk and held in Italy. Eventually he escaped and was hidden for a time by an Italian family. He was recaptured and transferred to Stalag IV-A Hoenstein Hesse. He always told the story of being liberated by Americans and given an American uniform to wear.
