Pte. William Drury
British Army 50th Btn. Highland Light Infantry
from:Walton, Liverpool
(d.1st August 1940)
William Drury was my uncle, the son of Annie and William Drury, and sister of Doris, from Liverpool (originally from Skelton-in-Cleveland, East Riding of Yorkshire). He joined the Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow) Regiment, 50th Battalion (this became the 13th Battalion on 9th October 1940 after his death).
He died at Buchanan Castle Military Hospital, Drymen, near Glasgow on 1st August 1940 aged 20 years. I am unaware of the cause of death but do not believe that it was as a result of enemy action.
He is buried in Anfield Cemetary (Liverpool) Sec 19, Grave 1397.
