Stkr/2nd Cl. Peter Edward Sparkes
Royal Navy HMS Golden Hind
from:Surrey
After many colourful stories about my dad, Peter Sparkes's time in the war, he passed away in February 2017.
One of the stories that stands out is the one that his family are most familiar with and that is the one on how he lost the top of his finger. Unfortunately for us, everyone got told a different version. Myself and my brother were told it got chopped off in a heavy door on board a ship, the little great grandchildren were wide eyed in awe when he told them a sniper shot it off. We will never know the real reason, but his great grandchildren loved his stories. Who knows if that happened during his time on HMS Golden Hind from September 1945 to May 1946?
