Thomas Greenaway was RSM of 3rd Medium Regiment RA, with the BEF in France in 1940, being evacuated at Dunkerque. The regiment had 2 batteries, WW1 guns on modern carriages. One battery had 60 pdr guns, the other 6" howitzers. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant (Quartermaster) on the 2nd of October, 1940, being posted to North Africa shortly afterwards.
