George "Dod" Stewart

British Army Gordon Highlanders

from:Donside

My uncle, George Stewart, joined the Gordon Highlanders as a boy soldier in, I think, the 1920s. He was captured by the Japanese in Singapore and spent the rest of the war as a POW working on the Burma Railway. On his release he returned to Donside, married Kate Third and was employed as a postman in Alford until his death in a road accident (while on duty) in 1964.
