Pte. Ronald Richard Rattley
British Army 1st Btn. Royal Hampshire Regiment
from:Portslade, Sussex
I was told that my Grandad Ron Rattley served in the Royal Hampshires, 1st Battalion and was serving in El Alamein and was misled by the captain into an Italian ambush which resulted in really heavy casualties.
Grandad Ron was shot in the jaw and the leg and was presumed dead by the Italians but was rescued and went missing according to war records until recorded wounded and POW in Sicily. As compensation for this, my mother was bought a private education at Caius College in Shoreham. I would love to verify any of this story
