Pte. Lewellyn Beaumont Pickup
British Army 6th Btn. Black Watch
(d.22nd May 1940)
I just saw the movie Dunkirk and wanted to post this as a remembrance to my great uncle, Pte. Lewellyn Pickup, who gave his life whilst serving his King and Country on the 22nd of May 1940.
Growing up my mum always told me the story of Christmas 1939 in Huddersfield, Yorkshire of her uncle coming to visit the house dressed in his kilt.
My mum also mentioned how my great uncle died according to his mate. He had ran into a house to take cover and a German plane dropped a bomb on it. Needless to say his body was never found. He is remembered on the Dunkirk memorial.
