Sub-Lieutenant Smedley was the Son of Edward Postill and Susan Edith Smedley; husband of Elizabeth Mary Smedley, of New Malden, Surrey. He was 26 when he drowned and is buried in Grave 7 in the Chapel Strand Cemetery, Arranmore Island, Co. Donegal.
