My grandfather George Hamilton embarked in the United Kingdom for service overseas on 13th of March 1942 and disembarked in Madagascar on 6th of May 1942. He then re-embarked in Madagascar on 19 May 1942 to disembark in Bombay, India on 2 June 1942.
He was in India for 29 days before being admitted into hospital at Ahmednagar on 1 July 1942, he was posted to the X2 sick list on the same day. On the 15 July 1942 he was discharged from hospital and taken off the sick list and taken back on the strength of 2nd Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was in India for a further 33 days before he embarked in Bombay and disembarked in Basra on 28 August 1942.
He then did a training course while in Persia and Iraq with the special forces and taken on strength in a special boat squadron while in the Middle East.
From there he was in Italy and the Middle East and fought with Major Mayne in night raids against the Italians, he was admitted to hospital in the Middle East on 24 October 1943. On 14 November 1943 he was discharged to No.3 Convalescent Depot and was on the X2 sick list. He was discharged from the Convalescent Depot on 7 December 1943 and had leave in Egypt from the 10-19 December 1943. He was admitted to 53 General Hospital and back on the sick list on 24 February 1944 then transferred to 12 General Hospital and discharged on 18 April 1944. He was still in the Middle East but came back to the United Kingdom on 5 May 1944 and struck of strength Middle East Force.
George was discharged on 15 August 1944 as permanently unfit. Medals awarded 1936-43 Star, Africa Star, Italy Star, Defense medal and War medal 1939 - 1945.
