William Davies and his crew flying Whitley V (Z9230) on a dropping mission (Lettuce 5) with 6 containers on board, crashed at the Holterberg, Overijssel, Netherland after having been shot down by a German nightfighter stationed at Twente Airfield, near Enschede and flown by Leutnant August Geiger.
