Cyril Ridgway enlisted into the Grenadier Guards in November 1939 and was transferred to 3rd Battalion in June 1940 after the fall of France so remained in England. After spending time in hospital at Louth, Lincs, in January 1941, Cyril was soon transferred into the RAMC, and served in J Company 1st Depot, Crookham, Hants from 15th of Feb 1941.
