Upon entering Broderbosch wood, in Holland nearing the border with Germany and in the Siegfried Line, C and D companies of 5th KOSB ran into intense mortar and artillery fire. Once the artillery had stopped. Small skirmishes of British and German troops occurred with hip firing of guns and bayonet attaches. Pte. George Messer was wounded by mortar shrapnel to the leg here.
