L/Sgt. Leonard Leslie "Chalky" White
British Army 113th Field Regiment Royal Artillery
My father enlisted in TA 1937 at Shoreham by Sea Sussex, and was posted to 113th Field Regiment Royal Artillery at Worthing in Sussex. The Regiment was part of the 56th London Division, known as the Black Cats. Until 1942 he was posted at Foots Cray and Dover in Kent, then the Division was mobilised and he went by troopship to India, then Iraq, Middle East, then North Africa, Sicily, Italy including Salerno. He transferred to 92nd Field Regiment, RA following short spell of illness.
He saw action at Anzio, Carigliano, then went to France and Germany via the Rhine Crossing and Luneberg Heath. He was part of the Occupation Force until Oct 1945 when he was demobilised.
