Jack Bennett was from Leeds. He attended Leeds College of Technology and worked for the film company 20th Century Fox before the war. On enlistment in the Royal Artillery, his technical prowess was spotted and he was transferred to the Royal Corps of Signals. By 1943 he was a Sgt with 110 Special Wireless Section in the Western Desert, part of the secret 'Y' service, tasked with intercepting enemy radio signals and passing them back to Bletchley Park for decoding using Enigma. He was wounded in action and died of his wounds on 19 March 1943. He is buried in the Sfax War Cemetery in Tunisia.
