Tpr. Raymond Derrick Young

British Army C Squadron Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry

My dad, Ray Young, died in 2010, he told me of a few of his exploits but not many. He had trained in Scotland with the DD tanks in the run up to D Day. Some of the tanks had sunk in the Lochs and not everyone was sure that they would be successful on D Day. He told me that when in Normandy he had got drunk and chased a Sergeant(who later died in battle) with his revolver who dad hated. I think he got into quite a bit of trouble over it. He also mentioned that there was a time when an 88 German gun opened up on his tank (he was driver in C Squadron) and it missed by inches.
