Pte. Alfred Davis
British Army York and Lancaster Regiment
from:Wath upon Dearne
My father, Alf Davis was a dispatch rider. He was evacuated from Dunkirk and later deployed to North Africa and then up through Italy towards the end of the war.
He was an athlete and runner as a young man and went on to raise 5 sons and 1 daughter in New Malden, Surrey. He was a proud man who spoke very infrequently of the war. His first son Jack was born while he was deployed in North Africa to Doris Marjorie Maycock nee Davis of Hythe, Kent. After the war he started a grocery business after selling vinegar from a barrel, he is missed!
