Humphrey Woods was commissioned into the The King's Royal Rifle Corps and became the Commanding Officer of the 9th Durham Light Infantry.
The son of Colonel Reginald Herbert Woods, O.B.E.,M.C., and Ivy Oswald Woods, of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, he was killed in action on 14th of June 1944, aged 28 and is buried in the Bayeux War Cemetery.
