Edwin Morley Hill

Royal Marines 43 Commando

from:Bristol

My dad, Ted Hill, joined the Royal Marines on 11th of January 1942 and trained at Lympstone, Hereford and Scotland and then joined 43 R.M Commando on 11th of January 1943. He was stationed for some time in Ramsgate where my mum joined him.

In January 1943 he embarked from the United Kingdom on the SS Monarch of Bermuda troop ship and disembarked in Algiers. From there he left Camp Byerta and sailed to Castellano. On 19th of June 1945 he embarked at Naples on HMT Caernarvon and arrived in the UK on 26th of June 1945. During his time in Italy my mum told me he was Batman to Captain Frost known as Freezer. On 14th of October 1945 he transferred to XIV Royal Marines Sec.2E British Army of the Rhine and embarked for North West Europe. He was demobbed on 11th of January 1946. I have obtained this information from my dad's service records and unfortunately have no knowledge of any enemy engagements or battles he was involved with.
