Bmdr. Robert Jones
British Army 1st Martime Regiment Royal Artillery
from:Royal Oak Estate, Wythanshaw, Manchester
Robert Jones was my Grandad. He sailed on many D.E.M. ships including D Day landings on an American troop ship. I inherited his Atlantic Star medal when my father passed away. I don't know the names of any of the ships. When I was small I used to ask why my Grandad had a hole in his nose and to tell me how it got there. He said he was hit by a bullet that didn't explode. Now I have learned about his role I feel so guilty asking him all the time to tell me the story. He must have relived the horror of the war every time. I was so lucky to have had my Grandad until I was 15.
